The streets of Ikoyi and Obalende came alive as football took centre stage during the Moet Charity Initiative’s 3-a-side competition, supported by BetKing Nigeria.
From early morning, residents from surrounding neighbourhoods, including the Falomo Police Barracks, gathered to witness fast-paced football matches that drew cheers, rivalry, and a strong sense of community pride. The competition, now in its second year of partnership with BetKing, featured about 25 local teams competing for neighbourhood bragging rights.
The compact 3-a-side format delivered intense action, with players displaying grit, speed, and technical skill. Spectators were treated to a festival atmosphere as small businesses and vendors also took advantage of the gathering to showcase their products.
The competition climaxed with Team BetKing defeating Team Moet 2-0 in a thrilling final, bringing the day’s activities to a close.
Speaking on the company’s involvement, Managing Director of BetKing Nigeria, Gossy Ukanwoke, said the sponsorship reflects the company’s belief in the power of sports to unite communities and inspire young people.
“This initiative goes beyond football. It is about giving communities a platform to connect, discover talent, and create positive social experiences through sports,” he said.
According to Ukanwoke, BetKing’s support for the Moet Charity Initiative is part of a broader commitment to sports development in Nigeria. The company also sponsors Ikorodu City FC in the Nigeria Premier Football League and supports the Kidsports Charity Initiative, which focuses on introducing young people to sports in structured and supportive environments.
With continued investment in community and professional sports programmes, BetKing says it remains committed to supporting talent development and fostering community engagement across the country.
