There is an early crack ahead of the 2027 forthcoming general elections, as a factional group of the African Democratic Congress in Borno State has disassociated itself from the Transitional and Registration committees allegedly set up by one of its chieftains, Kashim Imam.
The ADC chairman in the state, Umar Bolori, made the party’s position known at a news conference in Maiduguri.
Recalled that last Monday 12th January, 2026, a group loyal to former chairman, board of trustees (BoT) of the Tertiary Education Trust Fund ( TETFUND), Alhaji Kashim Ibrahim-Imam, the Mattawali of Borno (Acclaimed ADC Leader) formally inaugurated its Transitional and the Membership Registration Committees.
During the gathering at Barwee Hotels in Maiduguri, the Borno State Transitional Committee is to be chaired by Hon. Alhaji Ali Wurge, with Hon. Fali Wabulari sworn in as Secretary.
The event marked a significant milestone in the party’s ongoing efforts to strengthen its structure ahead of the much anticipated polls.
Meanwhile, the ADC Membership Registration Committee is headed by Hon. Peter Biye, with Hon. Kolo Bukar as Secretary.
Other notable party leaders and stakeholders inaugurated at the event include H.E. Kashim Imam Matawalle of Borno, Hon. Dr. Nicolas Msheliza, Hon. Bulama Fugu (former Speaker, House of Assembly), Hon. Attom Magira, Alhaji Umar Alkali Nasco, Hon. Barr.Umara Kumalia and Hon. Tijjani Amadu Yarwama.
Also included are Hajiya Fatima Zarah, HE. Mohammad Ali Jajari (former governorship aspirant), Hajiya Hauwa Kwajafa, Hon. Bukar Kachallah, Hon. Sadiq Mamman Gadai, Alhaji Lawan Kolomi, Hon. Babakura Abba Yusuf among other prominent party members.
Unfortunately, in less than few hours same day, the ADC chairman in the state, Umar Bolori, while briefing Journalists expressed his shock, and described Imam’s committees as “political jobbers” who were out to infiltrate the party ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The chairman, however, said the ADC in Borno was preparing for the 2027 elections to challenge the dominance of the All Progressives Congres in the state.
He said the party had been welcoming defectors from other opposition parties, including the Peoples Democratic Party and the New Nigeria People’s Party.
According to him, stakeholders are making wider consultations before the inauguration of committees to steer the party in the state.
“Some purported party members led by Kashim Imam Matawalle engaged political thugs and forcefully entered the meeting venue and breached security order, thereby causing injuries to loyal party members and security personnel.
“Based on the foregoing, the State Working Committee dissociates itself from any action taken during the meeting because the leadership of the party in the state was not involved.
“Appropriately, steps will be taken to remedy the situation. Relevant security agencies, including the Police and DSS, have been informed to curtail recurrence of such illegal activity,” Bolori said.
The chairman urged party members to remain calm and law-abiding, while efforts were ongoing to address the situation.
He also called on the national leadership of the ADC to immediately intervene in the party’s affairs in Borno.
