In a massive drive to reduce the poverty index and promote social inclusion, the lawmaker representing Obokun State Constituency in the Osun State House of Assembly, Adewumi Adeyemi, has empowered over 300 constituents in his annual constituency project, a gesture worth N100 million.

The initiative, tagged “Skills to Wealth Empowerment Scheme,” is part of the lawmaker’s consistent yearly tradition of giving back to his people and advocating for quality representation that goes beyond lawmaking.

The N100 million intervention included the construction of a modern motor park in Ibokun, the headquarters of Obokun Local Government Area, a project aimed at boosting local commerce and transport infrastructure.

A major highlight of the event was the special focus on social inclusion; when 10 people living with disabilities (PWDs) were presented with multipurpose mobile shops, each equipped with a POS machine and a startup cash grant of N200,000.

Other beneficiaries received a wide range of working tools aimed at fostering self-reliance. These included clippers and generators for barbers, dryers for hairdressers, grinding machines, manual sewing machines, deep freezers for traders, and motorcycle tyres for commercial riders, alongside cash gifts to boost small businesses.

Speaking at the event, Adeyemi, a known advocate for quality representation and education, spoke passionately about the philosophy behind his annual interventions.

“I do this every year not for politics, but because I know the pain of having skill without tools,” Adeyemi said, his voice laden with emotion.

“This program is not solely about providing financial assistance; it is serving as a lifeline for our people to regain their dignity. When a father or mother takes home a grinding machine or a deep freezer today, he isn’t just taking home a tool; he is taking home the assurance that he can feed his family tomorrow.”

“This initiative aligns with the broader goal of empowering every citizen to access the dividends of democracy and experience the impact of governance.

“This is not solely about providing financial assistance. This is my covenant with the people of Obokun: to serve with empathy and to ensure that governance touches the lowest among us.”

The event was attended by dignitaries, including the Federal lawmaker representing Ede North/Ede South/Egbedore/Ejigbo Federal Constituency, Rep. Bamidele Salam, and the Speaker of the Osun State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Adewale Egbedun, People’s Democratic Party’s State Chairman in Osun State, Sunday Bisi among others.

In his remarks, Rep. Bamidele Salam commended Adeyemi for setting a high standard for legislative representation.

“Honourable Adeyemi has shown that representation is about people, not just position,” Salam noted.

Also speaking, the Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Mr. Adewale Egbedun, described the programme as a model for other constituencies.

Egbedun, who noted that the initiative goes beyond politics but is impactful, stated that Adeyemi’s dedication to this cause aims at building a brighter future for Nigeria where education is accessible to all.

Accoording to the Speaker, the programme is a gesture beyond politics; but humanity in action.
