ABUJA—THE national leadership of Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, yesterday, warned that Action Congress of Nigeria, ACN, and other opposition groups cannot distract President Goodluck Jonathan in his task of governing the country.

PDP also urged ACN to desist from what it termed “reckless and irritating attempts at misinformation,” saying the party’s thoughtless statements were a further indication of its total ignorance on matters affecting the economy.

In a statement, yesterday, by PDP National Publicity Secretary, Chief Olisa Metuh, the party noted that it was a common practice, even in the most advanced economies in the world, to borrow funds to supplement the income they generate for development projects.

PDP said: “That Nigeria is found worthy of such credit facilities shows the improved credit rating of the country that was non-existent a few years ago.’’

Alleging that Lagos State Government was the most indebted state in the country, with an international debt profile of $491,847,295.53, PDP stressed that ACN had no moral justification to accuse the PDP-led government of debt profile.

‘’It is deceitful for ACN to question our debt profile when Lagos State is the most indebted state with an international debt profile of $491,847,295.53. This constitutes approximately 9% of the country’s total external debt profile. In addition, Lagos State also has an internal debt of N100 billion in bonds,” the party added.
