President Goodluck Jonathan has stressed the need for the “Education for All’’ to guarantee peace, justice and equity on the African continent.

Jonathan spoke in Abuja on Thursday at the opening of the Conference of Ministers of Education of the African Union (COMEDAF V).

He explained that the call became imperative as education was also an instrument that could empower men and women to discover their full potential.

“It is in realisation of this and in line with our Transformation Agenda that the Federal Government came up with a Four-Year-Strategic Plan for the Development of Education in Nigeria.”

The president, who was represented by the Head of Service of the Federation, Alhaji Bello Sali, said government was developing human capital necessary for the social and economic transformation of Nigeria.

He stressed that education still remained a veritable tool of developing any nation and a sensible approach to solving Africa’s developmental challenges.

The Minister of Education, Prof. Ruqayyatu Rufa’I, said the attainment of Education For All, MDG’s and Vision 20:2020 would be a mirage if it was not hinged on a solid education system.

“The education system of any country is too strategic and sensitive to be treated like any other sector”, she said. NAN
