The newly-appointed Director General of the Nigerian Institute of Sports, NIS, Philip Shaibu, said the mandate given to him by President Bola Tinubu was to revive the Institute, which would lead development of sports in the country.

Shaibu spoke to journalists shortly after a thanksgiving on his appointment at the St Paul Catholic Church, Benin City, on Sunday.

He was flanked by his successor in Edo government, Deputy Governor Denis Idahosa.

Philip Shaibu said: “I want to thank God and thank Mr. President for this appointment.

“And I want to assure him that by the grace of God we will not disappoint and we will build the National Sports Institute, NIS.”
