Benue killings: Sen Moro decries attacks, warns situation degenerating

The lawmaker representing Benue South Senatorial District and Senate Minority Leader, Senator Abba Moro has decried the escalating armed herdsmen attacks in his constituency warning that the situation might degenerate into a major crisis.

Senator Moro who expressed sadness over the ceaseless attacks and gruesome murder of his constituents by the marauders advised that the Federal and State governments take decisive action to halt the menace.

The lawmaker in a statement made available to newsmen Monday in Makurdi by his Media Adviser, Emmanuel John, cautioned that if something was not done urgently the situation might become difficult to contain.

Part of the statement read: “The Senator representing Benue South Senatorial District and Senate Minority Leader, Comrade Abba Moro is greatly saddened by the ceaseless attacks on Benue South communities by armed herdsmen, resulting in the death of several constituents and many others kidnapped.

“Communities in Apa, Agatu, Otukpo, Ohimini and Ogbadibo Local Government Area have been under serious attacks by the marauding herdsmen who kill, maim and kidnap at will without any resistance.

“Senator Moro is worried about the attacks and condemns them in totality. He warns that if something drastic is not urgently done to halt the killings, the situation will degenerate into a major crisis that will be difficult to contain.

“While extending his heartfelt condolences to the families of those killed and kidnapped, the senator calls on the state and federal governments to rise up to their constitutional responsibilities to secure the lives and properties of the citizenry.

“He says his people have the rights to live and do their businesses freely without fear, stating that that rights must be guaranteed.”
