SOKOTO – The Nigerian Army’s 8 Division wrapped up its 2025 Inter-Brigade Corporals and Below Competition on Friday with a vibrant closing ceremony at the Obstacle Ground, marking the end of four days of intense drills and spirited military contests.

The event, defined by precision, endurance, and camaraderie, brought together troops from across formations to participate in tactical and physical challenges aimed at enhancing combat readiness and unit cohesion.

Major General Ibikunle Ajose, General Officer Commanding (GOC) 8 Division and Commander Sector 2, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, commended the troops for their discipline, commitment, and professionalism. Represented by Brigadier General Moses Udom Ikobah, General Ajose described the competition as “a testament to the hard work, resilience, and fighting spirit of our soldiers,” emphasizing the Division’s continued pursuit of operational excellence.

“This competition is not just a display of strength and endurance — it’s a vital platform for building capacity and preparing our troops for real-world challenges,” he said. “The passion, skill, and discipline shown here underscore our readiness to tackle emerging security threats.”

He encouraged all participants, regardless of outcome, to internalize the lessons learned and remain ever mission-ready.

General Ajose also expressed deep appreciation to the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General O. Oluyede, for his unwavering support and commitment to the professional development of Army personnel. He further praised the Chief Judge and organizing committee — especially the 8 Division Garrison — for their seamless coordination and execution of the event.

The ceremony concluded with the official closing declaration and best wishes for safe journeys to all participants.

Top Honours: 1st Place: 8 Division Garrison, 2nd Place: 58 Signal Brigade and 3rd Place: 48 Engineers Brigade.

The competition not only fostered healthy rivalry but also reinforced the Nigerian Army’s resolve to maintain peak combat effectiveness across all ranks.
