A language expert, Olatunji Feranmi has advised the federal government to incorporate Korean language into the school curriculum, citing the numerous opportunities it presents.

Olatunji, who shared her personal experience of making her first dollar at age 19 as a Korean interpreter, said there is growing demand for Korean language skills in Nigeria.

She noted that Korean companies seeking to expand their African market often prioritise Nigeria, but require individuals who understand Korean to translate for their customers.

The Korean tutor who disclosed this while addressing participants at a Korean Culture presentation organised in Abeokuta, the Ogun state capital at the weekend, testified to the financial benefits of learning the language.

She advocated for the inclusion of Korean language in the school curriculum, believing it would open doors of opportunity for Nigerian youths and attract numerous benefits.

Her words “I made my first dollar at 19th just by learning Korean language and working as a Korean interpreter. These Korean companies, whenever they want to expand their African market their first destination is Nigeria.

“They need someone who understands Korean to translate to their customers. I walk as a Korean tutor and it gives me a lot of money. If government can incorporate the korean language into the curriculum, it will be a good thing, so that people can explore new languages, something foreign, something new.

Olatunji announced her plan to launch Korea classes in Abeokuta, with the aim to promote the language and its associated benefits to the local community.

“Nigerian youths can actually explore foreign languages. It opens doors of opportunity. When you embrace language, it attracts a lot of benefits. We are looking at starting a Korea classes here in Abeokuta,” she added.
