The Chairman/CEO of the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM), Abike Dabiri-Erewa, has underscored the crucial role of Nigerians abroad in the development of the country’s sports sector, emphasizing that their skills, expertise, and investments can drive significant progress.

In a press statement signed by NiDCOM’s Director of Media, Public Relations, and Protocol Unit, Abdur-Rahman Balogun, Dabiri-Erewa made the remarks in Lagos while welcoming Super Bowl champion Morotoluwa Ojomo at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Ikeja.

Ojomo, a Nigerian-born American football player, was received by NiDCOM officials following his recent Super Bowl victory with the Philadelphia team. The Commission reaffirmed its commitment to recognizing and engaging Nigerians in the diaspora who continue to bring pride to the country.

“Ojomo’s success is a testament to the resilience, hard work, and excellence that define Nigerians globally. NiDCOM remains dedicated to fostering stronger ties between Nigeria and its diaspora, ensuring their contributions to national development are acknowledged,” the statement read.

Ojomo, originally from Lagos, moved to the United States in 2009, where he built a successful career in American football. He played college football in Texas before advancing to the professional league, eventually earning the prestigious Super Bowl title.

His return to Nigeria was led by his father, Pastor Ololade Ojomo, alongside a team of supporters celebrating his achievement.

Dabiri-Erewa praised his dedication and highlighted how stories like his serve as inspiration for young Nigerians to strive for excellence in sports. She also called on more Nigerians in the diaspora to invest in the country’s sports sector, sharing their knowledge and expertise to foster growth and development.
