Minister of Interior, Comrade Abba Moro has declared that the call for a Sovereign National Conference in the country by a section of Nigerians is out of place and ill motivated.
Moro insisted that the proponents of the conference are agents of confusion in the present political context.
The Minister who made this declaration while fielding questions from newsmen at his country home in Ugbokolo said the agitation is unrealistic and unattainable because it is an aberration.
He said, “I believe very much that those that call for Sovereign National Conference to discuss the very foundation of Nigeria are proponents of what I can call confusion because here we are, we have a constitutional government in place with constitutional frame works for addressing socio-political, economic problems of the country”.
He urged those in the vanguard of the agitation to recourse to the National Assembly with their grievances where such issues would be properly discussed.
OPC scribe charges leaders to appreciate their cause
The national secretary of the Oodua Peoples Congress, OPC, Comrade Dare Adesope has called on Yoruba leaders to show more concern about the upliftment of the Yoruba race in order to enhance development of the region.
Also, the OPC leader appealed to the leaders, especially the politicians to support the congress in their effort to improve on the socio-cultural heritage of the Yoruba people, saying OPC has not been getting what it deserves from the leaders in spite of its efforts in supporting the political leaders at all times.
Adesope who was speaking at a memorial prayers organised by OPC in the honour of the late national Vice President of OPC, Alhaji Kazeem Alani Badmus (Kosija) who died last year said, “If not for OPC effort and that of other responsible groups, we wouldn’t have attained the present democracy we are now enjoying in the country. It was through the roles we played that led to the emergence of two Yoruba presidential candidate in the 1999 presidential election but to our surprise the Yoruba leaders have not been assisting us.”
