Computer guru, Akinwumi Fakokunde, has bagged Award of Excellence as the Software Engineer of the Year, Lagos State.

Speaking on why Fakokunde deserved the award, the Chief Executive Officer of AFKIT Technology Limited, Funsho Awodiran, noted that Fakokunde’s contributions software engineering were legendary and commendable.

He also listed the awardee’s mentorship of upcoming talents and his penchant for giving back to the society as attributes that stand him out

“His remarkable efforts, particularly through the Tech SheCodes Africa Initiative at Lagos State University, have significantly impacted the lives of hundreds of students, inspiring the next generation of technology enthusiasts and innovators.

“The Tech SheCodes Africa Initiative, sponsored by Akinwumi Fakokunde, provided programming education to 350 students over a three-week intensive training programme. The initiative not only imparted technical skills in various programming languages but also resulted in job opportunities for outstanding participants.

“Abdul-Raheem Olalekan, one of the beneficiaries, remarked: “The Tech SheCodes Africa Initiative not only redefined my career perspective but also opened lifelong opportunities, making me an accomplished student even as an undergraduate.”

‘This initiative, among others, stands as a testament to Akinwumi Fakokunde’s unwavering commitment to empowering young talents and fostering societal growth through technology.”

Fakokunde got his Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science from Joseph Ayo Babalola University, Osun State, Nigeria. MSc in Computer Science (Distinction) from Teesside University, Middlesbrough, United Kingdom.

He is currently pursuing a fully merit-based scholarship programme at Olin Business School, Washington University in St. Louis, United States of America.

He has served as a part-time lecturer in Artificial Intelligence at Teesside University, UK. Trainer for Tees Valley youths in North East England on Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, and Python Programming, supported by the UK Educational Fund.

As a visionary and resourceful tech professional, Fakokunde has consistently demonstrated a deep passion for human development and technological advancement.
