Alice Jegede Feed My Children Foundation holds inaugural outreach in Benin

The Alice Jegede Feed My Children Foundation organized its inaugural outreach this December, providing essential support to indigent mothers and infants in Benin City. The non-profit, inspired by the philanthropic legacy of Mama Alice Jegede, distributed food, financial assistance, and a renewed sense of hope to families in dire need.

Mama Alice Jegede, a revered restaurateur, dedicated her life to feeding and nurturing the less privileged. Her ethos, encapsulated in her belief that “everybody is somebody,” remains the cornerstone of the foundation’s mission. “Our goal is straightforward but transformative: no child should go to bed hungry, and no mother should feel alone in her struggle,” stated Dr. Philip Jegede, the foundation’s founder. “By coming together, we can create a future where every child has the opportunity to thrive.”

Held at the foundation’s headquarters and the Cole Orphanage in Benin City, the outreach was a testament to the foundation’s commitment to addressing hunger and poverty. Volunteers distributed food items such as rice, beans, and cooking oil, ensuring that families could enjoy a nutritious meal during the holiday season. Mothers also received monetary aid to cover urgent needs like healthcare and housing, while children were treated to moments of joy and laughter.

Speaking at the event, one beneficiary expressed her gratitude: “This foundation has given me hope during one of the most challenging times of my life. The food and support I’ve received will help my children and me through the holidays.”

Mama Alice Jegede’s life and work serve as a guiding light for the foundation’s initiatives. As a restaurateur, her doors were always open to those in need, offering meals and dignity to everyone who crossed her path. Today, the foundation honors her memory by tackling the challenges faced by indigent mothers and infants head-on.

These women and children often endure inadequate access to food, healthcare, and financial stability, which can perpetuate cycles of poverty and malnutrition. The foundation’s outreach programs, funded in part by the Alice Jegede Gourmet Foods in Lagos, aim to break this cycle by providing essential resources and fostering a sense of community.

Despite its impactful efforts, the foundation acknowledges that the need is still immense. With 25% of profits from Alice Jegede Gourmet Foods directed toward its programs, the organization relies heavily on donations and volunteer efforts to sustain its initiatives.

“As global statistics reveal, nearly one in three children under five suffers from malnutrition,” noted a foundation representative. “In many parts of Nigeria, mothers face the agonizing choice of whether to feed themselves or their children. We aim to change that narrative.”

The Alice Jegede Feed My Children Foundation invites individuals, corporate organizations, and community groups to support their cause. Donations, whether financial or in-kind, directly contribute to purchasing food, organizing outreach events, and providing financial assistance to struggling families.
