Jos – 32 former employees who retired from the service of the Plateau State Specialists Hospital in 2024 have been charged not to be lazy in retirement but to use the time they have to create value and make themselves useful to society.

The charge was given on Friday during the Hospital’s Staff end-of-year/retirees get-together award organized by the Chief Medical Director CMD of the hospital, Professor Christopher Yilgwan.

Charging the staff/retirees, the State Governor, Caleb Mutfwang represented by the Secretary to the Government of the State, Samuel Jatau, the State Commissioner of Health, Dr. Cletus Shurkuk, the Chief Medical Director of the Hospital, Professor Christopher Yilgwan, Mr. Solomon Chikan, Rev. Caleb Dami, the Vice Chancellor of the University of Jos, Professor Tanko Ishaya represented by Professor Esther Envuladu, among others urged them to gainfully engage their time and remain active to sustain themselves.

The Governor, who reiterated his commitment to improved healthcare service in the State, asked that medical professionals be nice to patients and urged the retirees not to be tired but to take advantage of the many interventions in the agricultural sector to get involved to create wealth.

The CMD, who praised the retirees for their dedication and invaluable services to the hospital, the State, and humanity, also disclosed the plans to make the celebration an annual event and extend future awards to outstanding active members of staff.

Mr. Solomon Chikan called on serving staff to make adequate preparations for their retirement and urged the retirees to ask for forgiveness from those they wronged while in service and remain active to avoid developing life-threatening ailments.

However, the Chairman of the Plateau State House Committee on Health, Daniel Nanbol, asked for the effective transfer of skills among staff so that when they retire, the Hospital’s workforce will still be relevant, delivering quality services.

Awards and gifts were presented to all the retirees, and Mrs. Lois Sarki, who spoke on behalf of the other retirees, commended the gesture and noted that their contributions while in service were appreciated.
