The Governor of Taraba State, Dr. Agbu Kefas, has urged the graduands of Mountain Top University to use their talents to enrich the lives of those around them and positively impact their communities.

Speaking at the 6th Convocation Ceremony of Mountain Top University, Governor Kefas charged the graduating students to use their gifts to serve others. “Your talents are not meant to be hidden but shared to enrich the lives of those around you while contributing to the betterment of society. Our society needs dynamic young people like you.”

“Those of us in leadership positions will ensure we create opportunities for you to lead lives of purpose. That is why, despite the challenges, I decided to be here because you are very, very important.”

Emphasizing the need to pair talent with courage, Governor Kefas said: “Talent alone is not enough. It must be paired with the courage to seize opportunities. In a constantly evolving world, opportunities often present themselves unexpectedly. Embrace them with confidence and determination, understanding that each opportunity is a stepping stone toward fulfilling your greater purpose. Whatever your hand finds to do, do it with all your might.”

He further underscored the importance of purpose, saying, “Purpose is the compass that directs your journey, ensuring that your efforts and ambitions are not merely for personal gain but for a higher calling. Purpose gives meaning to our endeavors, transforming aspirations into lasting legacies.”

Addressing the graduates, the Chancellor of MTU, Dr. Daniel Olukoya, urged them to be ambassadors of the university’s values. “Go forth and shine as stars in the firmament, carrying the banner of Mountain Top University as the light of Christ wherever you go.”

Acknowledging the challenges ahead, Olukoya stated: “The journey ahead will come with peculiar challenges. The world is in a state of flux, with uncertainties on every side. However, as children of God, you are not ordinary; you are overcomers. Arise, shine, for your light has come, and the glory of the Lord is risen upon you. Do not be afraid to confront difficulties. Face them with confidence, knowing that the God who brought you this far will see you through.”

Also stressing the importance of discipline and integrity, he said: “MTU is strict and disciplined, and where there is no discipline, there can be no progress. Discipline is essential for becoming better individuals who influence lives and impact destinies. Pursue excellence and integrity wherever you find yourself and serve humanity as ambassadors.”

Praising the parents and stakeholders for their sacrifices, Olukoya said, “Your labor of love has not been in vain. I salute your investments in these young men and women and pray the Lord strengthens you.”

Highlighting the university’s focus on entrepreneurship, MTU’s Vice-Chancellor, Professor Elijah Ayolabi, said, “At Mountain Top University, the entrepreneurial spirit thrives. Through our Development Centre, students gain practical skills in areas such as agribusiness, digital marketing, and manufacturing. Many of them are already successfully running businesses.”

He added, “We are committed to ensuring that every graduate leaves with entrepreneurial capabilities. This is achieved through our entrepreneurship and apprenticeship units, which connect students with seasoned industry professionals. These interactions sharpen their critical thinking and foster the development of innovative business ideas and plans.”

A key highlight of the event was the conferment of an honorary doctoral degree on Prince Alex Mbata in recognition of his philanthropy, leadership, and unwavering support for societal development.

Additionally, Professor Olajude Ayinla received the Distinguished Service Award for his outstanding contributions to academia, while Justice Oluwatoyin Atinuke Odusanya was honored for her integrity, commitment to justice, and dedication to public service.
