Nollywood actress, Collette Orji known by friends and fans as Coco, who relocated to the US sometime between 2015 and 2016 and has remained off the radar ever since has made a major comeback with a recently released movie on her YouTube channel titled “Lessons”.
Coco, who revealed that her long hiatus from the movie scene was due to the pressures of schooling, motherhood and family said the “Lessons” is all about sex with a personal twist regarding her own story as a woman.
In an interview with Potpourri she said, “Yes, it is sex lessons, and we tried to clean up the title as “Lessons” due to the marketing platform of YouTube.” She added that she wrote the story as well as the sreenplay, saying, “Yes, I did everything and sent the full story to my friend and colleague Ikenna Ekwuibe Donald who revised the script and sent back to me.
On the plot, she shared, “I will give you a half-truth right here, for posterity… Lessons is partly a personal storyline, just the core, the lead character traits. Every other thing is fictional. It’s like you take one topic and expand on it.”
On the cast choices which include seasoned hands like Collette Orji herself, Angela Philips, Michael Uchegbu, Florence Owanta, Stanley Igboanugu and Stephanie Frank and directed by Collins Aharanwa, she said she was intentional about it.
“I knew what I wanted,” she said. “I need matured actors, I needed actors who will bring to life a matured singular well told story, without shouting or yelling on the screen, professionals, who could share my vision on the story.”
Of course, she declined to speak on a scene in the movie some consider rather sexually intense that involves her and Michael Uchegbu. However, it may explain her choice of actors who know their onions.
Coco, who also revealed she has produced 3 films recently said she has no qualms about the competition on YouTube, saying she has been on the platform long enough to know what it takes to achieve success.
Hear her: “Everyone has a car too you know…Hahahaha. I think lfe is greatly about time, changes and being involved. YouTube is an American platform. I think I am one of those who owned the oldest YouTube platforms. I opened my first CocoWondersTV Channel since 2015. I have been monetized on YouTube as far back as 2016, TV Channels and vloggings and bloggings since 2015/2016/2017. I went back to school in America in 2016, I tried to keep doing everything, by 2018, it became overwhelming, school, family, and even with my staff who worked on my blogs, it was still overwhelming. I had to make an opportunity cost. Something had to give way
You see, when I went back to school in America, life and family, I absolutely needed a break from mainstream showbiz. I continued to be present on a couple of platforms and just be possibly reachable, but that was a new life, and succeeding always means retracing, focus and being more intentional with your time. Now, Coco is back.”
