Africa is brimming with economic potential, yet a substantial skills gap continues to hinder growth and development across the continent.
Recognizing this challenge, Oluwafunsho Paul Anthony, an innovator in education and technology, launched Origin8lab, an EdTech platform dedicated to bridging the gap and empowering Africa’s youth. Launched in May 2024, Origin8lab aims to address the disconnect between academic training and the practical skills required in today’s job market.
“The traditional education system often fails to prepare students for the demands of the modern job market,” said Anthony.
“Origin8lab is committed to changing this narrative by providing accessible, high-quality training programs that foster sustainable career success.”
Origin8lab’s mission is ambitious yet clear: to equip Africa’s youth with job-ready skills, offer educators an opportunity to share their knowledge while earning, and to drive social transformation through education and economic empowerment.
“We’re not just about education; we’re about empowering communities,” Anthony explained. “By investing in education and knowledge sharing, we’re strengthening communities across Africa. Our goal is to create a skilled and job-ready generation, equipped to drive economic growth and transformation.”
Under Anthony’s leadership, Origin8lab has made remarkable strides, partnering with major organizations to extend its reach. Through collaboration with VC4A for mentorship and resources, and its participation in the Go-Together Accelerator Program, Origin8lab has gained international exposure, expanding its networks and securing a leadership position in Africa’s EdTech space.
“Partnering with global and regional networks has allowed us to bring top-notch educational resources to African learners,” Anthony said. “It’s about building a platform that makes knowledge and skills accessible to all, especially underserved communities.”
Since its inception, Origin8lab has launched over a dozen training programs tailored specifically to African learners. The platform focuses on in-demand skills such as digital marketing, data science, and software development, essential for today’s competitive job market.
Additionally, Origin8lab regularly hosts webinars on critical topics affecting Africa’s educational landscape.
Anthony, who also founded Jobbero—a job search and career platform with over 20,000 members—and is the Managing Director of Picka Express, a tech-enabled package delivery service, draws from his extensive background to shape Origin8lab’s programs. “My experiences taught me that Africa’s youth are eager to learn and contribute to the economy. They just need the right tools and training,” he stated.
As demand for skills training grows, Origin8lab continues to expand its services. The organization remains committed to increasing access to quality education, supporting professional development for educators, and empowering youth to drive economic growth.
“Empowering youth with job-ready skills isn’t just good for business—it’s essential for Africa’s future,” said Anthony. “We’re building a movement that goes beyond education; it’s about creating opportunities for real change and transformation.”
Origin8lab’s dedication to education and economic empowerment represents a bold step toward addressing Africa’s skill gap. By providing youth with skills, educators with opportunities, and communities with hope, the platform is setting a new standard in Africa’s EdTech industry.
