Rule of law, only path to Nigeria’s greatness – Ex-president Academy of Science

Shina Abubakar, Osogbo

Former President, Nigeria Academy of Science, Professor Oyewole Tomori has disclosed that only strict adherence to rule of law would return Nigeria to the path of greatness.

He added that thinking of greatness without confronting the multi-dimensional problems headlong is delusional, stressing the need for Nigerians irrespective of status to adhere strictly to the rule of law.

Delivering Bowen University’s 19th Convocation lecture, titled, “Defining Nigeria, Refining Our Nation: A Cultural Contemporary Continuum”, he stressed the need for Nigerians to collectively diagnose the country’s problem and stop living in delusion.

The foremost professor of virology, calls for a collective commitment to ethical governance and long-term planning to prevent the nation from approaching the brink of failure

His words, “I believes true progress is unattainable without confronting uncomfortable truths which is the reason every Nigerian must support Government. We must all be willing to obey the law of the land, if we must enjoy the good of the land. We must get the true diagnosis of our problems and stop deluding ourselves that we are a great nation.”

He added that looted funds in the country is twice the amount borrowed to run the government, saying, “no segment of our society is free from corruption, corruption roams freely in the corridors of our Ministries. It has a place of honor in the bedroom, in the private and public setting of our leaders be it political, academic, reason or temporal or spiritual.”
