Tanker drivers blame colleagues over Oshodi-Apapa traffic gridlock

By BARTHOLOMEW MADUKWE
Lagos—Tanker drivers in Lagos, yesterday, blamed follow drivers for parking on the Apapa-Oshodi Expressway of the state, saying that some of them choose to park indiscrimately at the Asiwaju terminal,  thereby making others park on the express.

A Bauchi born tanker driver, Abdul Waziri, who spoke to Vanguard, said  sometimes, his colleagues will choose to wait after loading their tanks in a bid to see their friends, adding that the proper thing to do was for whosoever that received fuel to remove his tanker from the terminal, to enable incoming ones to park.

He said: “When people come to load fuel, after loading, they leave their trucks inside the terminal just to see friends. Personally, whenever I  load, even if I need to see my friends, I tell them to meet me somewhere, so that other drivers coming to load will have space to park their trankers.”

Another tanker driver, who pleaded anonymity, said some of the tanker drivers, in a bid to evade the payment of N1,000  for security per night at the parking at the terminal, choose to park on the expressway, adding “if it was not that the Lagos State Government ordered them to vacate the roads, all the roads would have been filled with tankers, which block even commercial motor cycles.”

One of the security personnel on duty at the terminal, explained to that there were enough space, but the tanker drivers for reasons best known to them choose to park on the roads.
