FUPRE empowers 60 new zero waste ambassadors to champion sustainability

The Federal University of Petroleum Resources Effurun (FUPRE), has trained 60 ambassadors to promote the Zero Waste Project on campus.

This initiative, led by Dr. Akinyemi Ogunkeyede, Acting Director of the Centre for Waste Management and Sustainable Resources, in partnership with the Community Development Advocacy Foundation (CODAF), took place for over two days.

The training programme aimed to equip participants, comprising both staff and students with essential skills and knowledge to effectively implement the Zero Waste Project across various departments of the university.

The selection process was inclusive, ensuring representation from all sectors of the campus community, thereby fostering a united front in the fight against waste.

In his remark, Dr. Ogunkeyede highlighted the importance of these ambassadors in advancing FUPRE’s sustainability agenda, encouraging them to take an active role in the initiative and to promote a culture of environmental responsibility.

“The Zero Waste Project is designed to eliminate plastic pollution on campus and is a vital component of the university’s overarching environmental strategy.”

“This partnership with CODAF not only reinforces FUPRE’s commitment to sustainability but also sets a precedent for other institutions looking to enhance their environmental initiatives.”

“The newly trained ambassadors are expected to lead by example, inspiring their peers and the wider community to engage in sustainable practices,” he stated.
