FCTA goes tough on allottees of undeveloped plots in Satellite towns

By Favour Nnabugwu

Owners of undeveloped plots in Bwari and Karshi Satellite towns have been given six months to develop such plots or  have their approvals revoked.

The FCT Minister, Senator Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed handed the ultimatum to owners of undeveloped plots in those areas while receiving participants of the Course Five of the Institute of Security Studies in FCTA.

He charged them  to develop their plots in areas where the administration has provided infrastructure and services within the six months given or have such allocations  revoked.  The Minister who stated that infrastructure has already been provided in those areas, wondered what such allottees are still waiting for.

Senator Mohammed emphasized that such plots will be revoked and be given to those who have capacity to develop them.

His words: “I want to seize this opportunity to tell Nigerians that in places like Bwari and Karshi where we have provided infrastructure, those who have land and hold titles, should come and build them within six months, otherwise we will revoke the land and give them to those that will build it”.

Senator Mohammed however remarked that before such revocation, the FCT Administration will give enough notices to the affected persons to avoid court cases.

The Minister disclosed that the plot allocated to develop an “American Hospital” along Umaru Musa Yar’Adua Way (Airport Road), if left unattended to, will also be revoked. According to him, the FCT Administration has shown enough understanding.

He noted that his Administration in line with the transformation agenda of President Goodluck Jonathan will create a Health Village where health facilities and services will be clustered thereby, giving Abuja a character.

The Minister disclosed that the FCT Administration will ban the use of Tricycle (KEKE NAPEP) in the Federal Capital City especially when the Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) companies are fully operational. He regretted that tricycle operators are  not following the traffic rules.

He further disclosed that the FCT Administration is assiduously working to realize the on-going Abuja light rail to help in tackling the traffic problem in the Abuja metropolis.

Senator Mohammed emphasized that parking meters introduced in the Federal Capital City will go a long way to discourage the use of private vehicles and make residents to revert to public transportation.

On high cost rent in Abuja, the Minister also revealed that very soon the FCT Administration will do a ground breaking for two new additional districts in the Federal Capital City. The new districts are Wuye and Jahi; thus bringing the number of new districts being opened up and provided with infrastructure to five.

The FCT Administration, the Minister said,  intends to discourage the activities of land speculators to enable investors get land allocation directly. This will also help to reduce the skyrocketed house rent charged by Shylock landlords.
