To groom more home talent, a member of Nigeria’s female national basketball team, Adenike Olawuyi organized a day training camp for children and youths in Osogbo, Osun State capital.

The basketball clinic handled by Coach Taiwo Ajibola, involved skills drills, two-on-two play, and fitness drills among others.

Speaking on her motive for the clinic, the Europe-based player said her dream was to help nurture young raw talents for success as she was also discovered from the grassroots

Olawuyi, who was playing for Books and Ball in Osogbo before she moved abroad added that sports talent is around in Nigeria, stressing that with adequate infrastructure the country is one to beat in all types of sporting activities.

From what we have seen today, it is crystal clear that talents abound in Africa, especially Nigeria. These young lads need proper mentoring and facilities to excel. Government must see sports as an investment which can engage about 50 percent of the youths population in this country and invest in it appropriately.

“In this edition, over 50 children and teenagers benefitted from the clinic and I hope to come back stronger next time to cover more talented players”, she said.

Coach Ajibola while commending the player, disclosed that such clinic is always a hunting ground for raw talent, which in turn could be mentored for greatness.
