Ighodalo

A coalition of support groups for the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Edo State Governorship Candidate, Dr. Asue Ighodalo has said it would be an overkill for opposition parties if the Secretary to the Edo State Government, Mr. Osarodion Ogie, agreed to be Ighodalo’s running mate.
The political pressure group said Ighodalo, already towers above the candidates of other political parties running to succeed Governor Godwin Obaseki in terms of international connections, intelligence, education, capacity, and experience among other qualities of the ideal governor needed to take the baton of leadership from Obaseki
During a media chat with journalists, the Director-General of the group, Alhaji Mujaidu Bello, said: “It would be a perfect match and a strategic pick if the party considers Osarodion Ogie as a running mate. In fact, it would be overkill for opposition parties if that happens because the campaigns would be a lot easier, and the election would be concluded before the scheduled time.
Bello considers Ighodalo and Ogie highly qualified and well-equipped to carry out the responsibilities of the governor of Edo State after the tenure of Governor Obaseki.
Bello disclosed that he received calls and messages from notable personalities, including political leaders, traditional rulers, and religious leaders, on this issue and why the party must be thoughtful about this decision.
He said: “The time for a deputy governor has come because the responsibilities of that office are immense, needing someone whose experience and expertise will help the candidate navigate the challenges of governance.
“If the party approaches the Secretary to the state government and he agrees, it will not only generate an overwhelming reaction but also will attract support from across party affiliations, civil societies, among others who know Osarodion’s quality.
“Incorporating Osarodion Ogie into the candidacy would not only strengthen the ticket but also garner widespread endorsement and confidence from diverse sectors of society. Moreover, by presenting a unified front with a formidable team, the party can inspire trust and unity among its members and the electorate – a sense of confidence in its ability to lead Edo state towards progress and prosperity.”
