Gunmen kill driver, woman, abduct 2 in Enugu

NSUKKA—TWO persons, a driver and a woman were killed in Opanda, Uzo-Uwani Local Government Area of Enugu State by gunmen, who attacked their bus on Sunday.

Two other passengers in the bus, which was travelling from Nsukka to Adani, were also said to have been abducted by the gunmen suspects to be kidnappers.

The slain driver, whose bus belongs to the fleet of Enugu State Transport Company, ENTRACO, and the woman said to be returning from where she had gone to look after her daughter who gave birth, were identified as those killed by gunmen during the attack.

One of two persons abducted by the criminals is said to be a popular businessman based in Adani.

A community source, who pleaded anonymity, said the incident happened at Akoro Valley at about 5p.m., on Sunday. He confirmed that the occupants of the bus were returning from Nsukka metropolis to Adani, in Uzo-Uwani when the incident happened.
The source said some other passengers, including a retired headmaster, also sustained bullet wound.

The source said: “They were attacked around Akoro Valley in Opanda. The bus driver and another woman who was returning from ‘omugwo’ died on the spot. They abducted two of the passengers, including a popular beans seller known as SY Beans and another passenger.

“About six of the victims were wounded by bullets while those who acted fast managed to escape.”
Message passed to Enugu State Police Command Public Relations Officer, Daniel Ndukwe, on confirmation of the incident was not reply at press time.
