Enugu, Nigeria – In a harrowing incident on the evening of Friday, January 22, 2021, 20-year-old student Mr. Uchechukwu Edeh faced a life-threatening assault by five armed men who claimed to be cultists near his residence in Awkunanaw, Enugu
Edeh, a male Nigerian student, recounted the horrifying experience, revealing that three of the assailants had previously targeted him in attacks spanning from the school areas of IMT Polytechnic, Enugu, to locations outside the educational premises since June 30, 2020.
The assailants mercilessly beat Edeh between 8pm and 9pm on the specified date. The attackers left Edeh severely injured, with blows, kicks, sticks, and machetes, as horrified onlookers remained passive until a few brave individuals intervened.
Edeh disclosed that his decision to leave the cult group had triggered the repeated attacks. He asserted that the cult members, involved in theft and robbery activities, demanded his participation in their illicit endeavors or face dire consequences. Desperate to disassociate from criminal activities, Edeh emphasized, “I am not a thief, sir.”
Expressing fear for his life and that of his family, Edeh pleaded for immediate intervention to ensure his safety from the ongoing threats. Authorities are urged to investigate the matter and take necessary actions against the perpetrators to prevent further harm to the victim and potential danger to the community.
