With the reported increased rate and repute of fraud and corruption in third-world countries, technology has become the go-to tool to tackle the attendant bias and a company doing this is VetMe.

Speaking on the bias that citizens from third-world countries suffer, Tomiwa Latunde, the CEO of VetMe, a tech-powered escrow and trading platform, expresses how he has been using tech to ensure that people like him are not marginalised.

“My drive came from my experience as a Nigerian venturing into tech, online trading and cryptocurrency, I couldn’t tell people where I’m from without being judged. The moment I tell people I’m a Nigerian, they would have second thoughts, block me, or even call me a Nigerian scammer. That motivated me to create a platform that would not look at your race, culture or wealth, an organisation that would solve these problems, give people equal opportunities and eradicate these stereotypes,” Latunde stated.

Further elaborating on how escrow tech can be a leveller in the global workplace, the UK-based entrepreneur says his platform, VetMe, provides an escrow service that ensures people would no longer fear losing their money.

“Even though it is unfair to label everyone from developing countries as scammers, this is not to say that scammers don’t exist. A lot of people have lost money to them. That’s why VetMe was birthed. Its escrow service would serve as an intermediary between the two parties involved in a transaction, ensuring that no one is scammed and services are rendered as promised. VetMe ensures that people all over the world are no longer at risk of losing their hard-earned money,” Latunde added.
