Acting Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, Mr. Ibrahim Lamorde, has said the media had a larger role to play in the effort to reinvigorate the fight against corruption in the country.

Reiterating his plan to cleanse EFCC of all inadequacies, Lamorde said his mission was to improve the EFCC’s effectiveness in an effort to increase its capacity to combat corruption in accordance with the economic and social transformation policy of the incumbent administration.

Lamorde, who spoke at the just-concluded two-day workshop for journalists, aimed at enhancing their capacity to investigate and report corruption-related issues, noted that the workshop was put up in order to collaborate with the media to ensure that economic fraud was reduced to the barest minimum in the country.

The EFCC boss, who was represented by Head of Operations in Lagos office, Mr. Muazu Zubair, said: “In my speeches since assuming office as the Acting Chairman of EFCC, I have spoken of my preparedness to cleanse the agency and to improve its effectiveness.

“There is no gainsaying the fact that corruption remains our country’s greatest problem and we need the support of the media to reinvigorate the fight against economic crimes.”
