ABEOKUTA – A THREE-man armed robbery gang yesterday hijacked a vehicle belonging to the  Federal Medical Centre, Idi-Aba, Abeokuta and carted away a huge amount of money.

The robbers, who seem to have shifted attention from commercial banks to hospitals in the state, allegedly operated  successfully  within few minutes  without any hindrance.

According to an  eye witness, identified as Olusola Adebare, the robbers  trailed the vehicle that  carried  the  money  from the daily sales of the hospital, on its way to the bank,  double-crossed it  and dispossessed  the occupants of the money.

The eye witness, said  the robbers trailed the car with the logo of the hospital which had  four occupants, stopped the car at Elite junction, near the hospital and ordered the  occupants out then  robbed them of the hospital’s money contained in two sacks.

After the operation, according to the findings, the robbers  started shooting sporadically into the air  to scare  the people away and escaped with the  loot  through  FMC-Kemta  road.

When contacted, the Information Officer of the hospital, Segun Orisajo confirmed the incident,  saying that,  two of the hospital account officers were robbed with the hospital money near Elite junction on their way to the bank in the hospital car.

He  however, said that,  the matter has been reported to the police for proper investigation but attempt to get official confirmation from the Police Public Relations Offcier, PPRO, Muyiwa Adejobi was rebuffed.
