BENIN— EDO State Governor, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole, weekend, in Benin said the future of the country depended on the quality of its human resources and not  its natural resources.

The governor, who spoke at Benson Idahosa University, Benin, where he was conferred with the Honorary Doctorate of Science (D.Sc) in Political Science, said what determined the greatness of a nation was the quality of its human resources.

According to him, “therefore, private universities such as Benson Idahosa University ought to benefit from Federal grants.  A university in so many ways contributes to the development of the society, so it should benefit from government support”.

The governor, while expressing dismay at the level of unemployment in the country, however, said President Goodluck Jonathan appreciated that this economy must create jobs and appealed to the graduands to appreciate that unemployment was being solved adding that  “ at the state level we are working on it”.

Oshiomhole, who explained that there was no perfect country, urged the people not to give up on the nation, saying Nigeria must work.

“We have not solved all the problems of Edo State but we have shown that the people are in charge.  No state will have the resources to do what it wants but with the right ideas and plans, you will find the resources to work for the people,” he said.

In a citation, Benson Idahosa University said its decision to honour Gov Oshiomhole was based on his “political sagacity and his commitment to changing the face of governance in the state by revamping and providing the needed infrastructure which has repositioned the state as one which is now the envy of others.
