WARRI—Family of the slain Citizens Popular Party, CPP, gubernatorial candidate in the 2007/2011 elections in Delta State, has criticised the Inspector-General of Police, Mr. Hafis Ringin, over the appointment of Mr. Ibrahim Tsafe, Delta State Commissioner of Police,  as chairman of the committee to investigate the circumstances surrounding the death of Chief Ogbe Onokpite.

At a briefing, the Onokpite family, who spoke through Diemo Onokpite, likened Tsafe’s appointment to asking a fox to preside over a gathering of hens, disclosing that Tsafe had already labelled their son a notorious criminal even when he could not produce any  evidence to back up his wild presumptious.

The family claimed that Tsafe cannot be objective and impartial in the discharge of this new responsibility, having allegedly compromised his credibility.

The Onokpites affirmed that by this appointment, the Police are acting as the accuser and judge in the dastardly killing of their son.

This action, the family said, are  two diametrically opposed positions bound to stalemate the work of the committee and nip any drive for redress and justice in the bud.

The family noted that  it was Tsafe, who had around the time of the rerun election ordered Ogbe’s arrest on a trumped-up murder charge that was later dropped for want of evidence and the same policeman who had claimed in an interview that he did not know Ogbe or his political affiliation.
