YOLA—Ahead of Adamawa State gubernatorial elections coming up in January, the state chapter of Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has been plunged into crisis following the resignation of the former Speaker of the state House of Assembly.

Vanguard gathered that the impeachment of Mr. Abubakar Sadiq, Speaker, and Mrs. Wale Fwa, Deputy Speaker, by two-thirds of the members of the House over allegations of non-performance and being a candidate of Governor Murtala Nyako.

It was also gathered that following the expectation that the Supreme Court judgment over the tenure of the five governors would go against the sitting governors, members did not want Nyako handing over to his preferred candidate while the state is tilting overwhelmingly to the Congress for Progressive Change, CPC, gubernatorial candidate, General Mohammed Marwa(rtd).

Consequently, it was learnt that Governor Nyako, who was taken unawares by the House of Assembly action, has commenced underground moves to have the former Speaker reinstated.

The snag, however, is that by the House rules the Speaker, who signed his resignation to escape impeachment, cannot be reinstated until after one year.

Aside this, the election of the new Speaker, who was the House Majority leader, Mr. Ahmed Finfiri and his deputy, Kunawah Lawori, was done after the Minority Leader, Mr. Jerry Kumdisi, moved the motion for the impeachment of the Speaker, which shows a House united against Sadiq.
