AS part of moves to boost tourism development in Nigeria, President Goodluck Jonathan has signed the Badagry Heritage and Coastal Tourism Agreement.

According to President Jonathan, the Federal Government would when it becomes imperative,  carry out the necessary hand holding.

The President who was represented by the Minister of Tourism, Culture and National Orientation, Chief Edem Duke at the signing ceremony, however promised that the ministry will continue to play the role of a catalyst in Tourism development, adding, “the Ministry would encourage the partnership with States of the Federation and even the Local Government Authorities all over the country.

Responding on behalf of his state, the Permanent Secretary, Lagos State Tourism and Inter Governmental Relations Mr. Ashamu Fadipe, said, “the State sincerely appreciated the role being played by the Federal Government particularly the Ministry of Tourism, Culture and National Orientation over the years as a catalyst leading the industry into brighter future.

“The government of Lagos State under the leadership of  Babatunde Fashola SAN has committed nearly N1 billion to the development of Slave Route in Badagry which included the rehabilitation of the Heritage Site, the Museum, development of other Museums, the Slave Tunnel and few others including the Point of No Return.”
