ABUJA—FORMER Vice-President, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, Tuesday, expressed fears that the current security challenges occasioned by bombings from the Boko Haram sect would degenerate into anarchy in the country, if the Arewa Consultative Forum, ACF, failed to brace up and deal with the issue.

Atiku spoke when he received an 11-member peace delegation of ACF led by the former Deputy Governor of Sokoto State, Alhaji Ahmed Gusau, noting that there was no part of Nigeria that is not facing security challenges.

He said factors that gave rise to the security problems must be tackled for peace to reign, adding that the development of human capital was key to economic development, as  nations can achieve development without oil and gas. He cited Japan.

Atiku, who reminded the ACF leaders that they could not detach themselves from politics entirely as politics creeps into many issues, said the current consultations by ACF leaders would go a long way to help it find its bearing.

Earlier, the leader of the delegation, Gusau and other members of his team, including General Lawrence Onoja, had emphasised the urgent task of halting the current orgy of killings between Muslims and Christians in the North, pointing out that the area would not achieve progress with death and destruction.

Among those in the delegation were Sardauna Katsina, former IGP, Alhaji Ibrahim Coomassie (rtd), Col. Johan Ubah (rtd), Bitrus Gwadah, Baba Bisalla, J. M. Alabi, Alhaji Mohammed Ibrahim, Fati Ibrahim, Hajiya Halima Alfa and  Bukar Zarma.
