An Abuja Magistrate Court recently convicted and sentenced a 27year-old business woman to one month imprisonment for collecting the sum of N100, 000 from one Stella Nwazoma under false pretence.

Uzor Amaka Odoh of Alaita Village, Abuja, was arraigned by police on the offence of collecting the said money with pretence from the complainant, Stella, for the payment of an apartment in Gwarinpa, Abuja.

Magistrate Hanwa Aliyu convicted Uzor Amaka after she pleaded guilty to the offence and sentenced her to one month jail term with an option of fine of N10, 000. He also ordered the convict to pay the sum of N60, 000 to the complainant to complete the money, as the sum of N40, 000 had been recovered by the police from the convict.

The court ruled that failure by the convict to pay the money between November 14 and December 14, she should serve another three-month jail term.

Earlier, the police prosecutor, Emeka Oganah, told the court that the convict “intentionally converted the money to your own personal use and anytime she asked you about the house, you always gave one excuse or the other. During police investigation, you confessed and the cash of N40,000 was recovered from you”.
