Igbo youths flay bloodbath in Yobe

By Tony Edike
ENUGU— The Igbo Youth Movement, IYM, yesterday, condemned last weekend’s bloodbath in Damaturu and Potiskum in Yobe State in which over 100 persons were killed by the Islamic sect, Boko Haram, warning that the situation was completely unacceptable and that President Goodluck Jonathan had a duty to restore peace and normalcy in the country.

Briefing reporters in Enugu,  IYM President, Evangelist Elliot Uko, noted that while friends and supporters of President Jonathan were confused over what was going on, his critics and opponents were having a field day sending text messages and declaring that President Jonathan was unfit to run this country.

He said: “For me and IYM, it’s a bloody day, it’s a bad day. We don’t want anything to make this repeat itself. President Jonathan must address the issues of security. Innocent Nigerians are being killed everyday in the name of Boko Haram. It has come to a point where it is completely unacceptable.”

He said Nigerians were tired of such government reactions like, “government is on top of the situation,’ investigation is going on;’ “like we heard in the October 1, 2010, bomb blast and in the United Nations building bomb blast.”
