Agile security operatives attached to the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, Enugu State, last week arrested a 300-level computer science student of the University said to be on a vengeance mission after a member of his cult was allegedly killed by a rival group.
Only three weeks ago, a graduate of Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, Anene Eze was killed after desperate efforts to escape from his assailants who chased him to a popular drinking sport, “Ugba Joint” along new Anglican road, Nsukka.
The 300- level student, Ekene Ernest Eze (not related to the deceased) is presently helping the police in their investigations after he was apprehended at a nearby ghetto to the University popularly called “Hill Top” in an attempt to allegedly eliminate another student whose identity was not disclosed for security reasons, for his alleged membership of a rival cult group suspected to have carried out the earlier killing.
Ekene Ernest Eze was arrested following distress calls to the security department of the university by his victim sensing that his life was in danger, alleging that Ekene attacked him at the wee hours of that fateful day on a vengeance mission.
The suspect who spoke to Crime Alert said he belonged to Vikings cult group of the university and was initiated into the dreaded cult by his friend Ezea Kabilo, a student of economics at the same university who hails from Opi in Nsukka local government area, Enugu state. He said he collected the locally- made pistol from him for the vengeance mission.
Ekene further said that he was arrested because he threatened somebody who was having problem with his friend, Kabilo, now at large together with Chinedu, Chimaroke, Tripple and Onyema.
It could be recalled that since the incident of the killing of Anene Eze, three weeks ago, the rival cultists were said to have tried to broker peace in efforts to halt unending reprisals to no avail, leading to the arrest of Ekene while others are at large for the foiled reprisal attack.
Crime Alert gathered that the rival cultists had traced the member of a rival group who has been marked for death as a retaliation for the slain graduate but luck was on his side as his assailants could not carryout their nefarious act before security operatives from the university of Nigeria swooped on them.
The Chief security officer of the university, Mr. Cyracus Uzoma confirmed the arrest and foiled attempt by the cultists and said that the suspect has been handed over to police for further investigation.
