Jos—A Lagos-based non-governmental organisation coordinated by an alumnus of  University of Jos has donated relief materials to the institution in aid of victims of the Jos crises.

The group, Action for Jos, donated items which included food, clothing and other items to the Advancement Office of the institution which in collaboration with the Centre for Conflict Management and Peace Studies of the institution has initiated a peace building programme among communities in Jos.

Executive Director of the Advancement Office, Prof. Victor Dugga, said the items would contribute to the peace-building efforts in the state.

Represented by Mrs. Sarah Lwahas, he thanked the group for responding to the call to alumni of the university to return and contribute to her development.

He said: “This is a unique gift which will open more doors for others to also extend a helping hand to victims of the crisis in Jos.

”You will recall that the Advancement Office had earlier undertaken a visit to three crisis zones within Jos to acquaint itself with the realities on ground concerning those affected by the crisis.”

Handing over the relief materials on behalf of the group, Mr. Nanpa Kumswa, said it was the organisation’s way of contributing to alleviating the burden of victims of the crisis.

He said the donation came from “everyday people living in Lagos who desire to promote peace on the Plateau and coordinated by Action forJos, an NGO out to use dialogue and advocacy to strengthen harmonious coexistence among the people of Jos.”

Director of the Centre for Conflict Management and Peace Studies of the university, Dr. Audu Gambo also commended the body for the donation describing it as a landmark in the peace building process in the state.
