In view of the sharp disagreements among Libya’s National Transitional Council, NTC, NTC leaders on the killing of the erstwhile leader, Colonel Muamar Gaddafi, Laos lawyer, Mr. Femi Falala, wants the Special Prosecutor of the International Criminal Court invited to probe the killing and prosecute those who may be indicted in the investigation.
“Since the NTC mobilised Libyans to remove Gaddafi from power for imposing his ideas and policies on the nation without going through democratic structures the people of Libya should be given the opportunity to determine their political destiny.
Therefore, the decision of the NTC to impose Sharia Law and legalised polygamy should be suspended and subjected to a referendum.
Otherwise the NTC may have surreptitiously substituted one dictatorship for another contrary to the expectations of Libyans who have fought for political emancipation.”, the lawyer added.
“Since the NTC has announced that Col. Gaddafi’s first son, Saif al-Islam, is prepared to face trial at the International Criminal Court he should be arrested and handed over to the Special Prosecutor of the court without any further delay.
The NTC and Libyans will gain immensely from the trial as it will expose the massive violations of human rights under the repressive rule of Col. Gaddafi who was actively aided by western governments”.
