FG lacks political will to tackle Boko Haram – Foundation

By Evelyn Usman
LAGOS — The three tiers of government as well as security agencies in the country have been accused of lacking the political will to take action meant to address the menace of Boko Haram in the country.

African Representative of International Foundation for Protection Officer, IFPO, Dr Ona Ekhiomu, who spoke at the inauguration of  the executive Certified Protection Officer Training programme, CPOTP,  course in Lagos, challenged concerned authorities to confront activities of the sect by arresting the perpetrators.

He said such move would serve as deterrent to future sects that might want to disturb the peace of the country.

Said he: “The capability of the protectors is often of concern to us because we do not know how capable, trained and skilled they are in terms of being able to solve this complex situation and being able to stay ahead of the bad guys.

“I believe what is lacking is the political will to take action on the problem. What  I mean is that, there is a criminal act that is perpetrated. The first thing you do is to detect the perpetrator of that act and punish him. That incapacitates the person, especially someone who had committed a capital offense and by so doing, you are sending a message to others.”

When you confront a beast, you need to have the strength to deal with it or else it will swallow you. There are so many authorities that are failing. It is not just the Federal Government,” he added.
