Ado-Ekiti—Ekiti State House of Assembly, has immortalised former Deputy Speaker of the state House of Assembly, late Abayomi Saliu Adeoti, by naming a secondary school and old Parliament Road in the State Capital after him.
Adeoti, who represented Moba Constituency 1 in the assembly, was among the 13 Action Congress of Nigerian, ACN, lawmakers who served under the administration of Mr. Segun Oni .
He died October 27, 2010 at age 39 after a brief illness.
At the special session witnessed by Governor Kayode Fayemi, his deputy, Mrs. Funmilayo Olayinka and other executive members of the state, yesterday, the lawmakers described the late politician as a hero whose contribution to democracy in the state was worth emulating.
The lawmakers named Otun Comprehensive High School, Otun Ekiti in his native town and the Old Parliament Road, Ado Ekiti after the late politician.
Speaking at the occasion, the former Speaker, Mr. Tunji Odeyemi, who worked for about two and half years with Adeoti before his demise said, he was able to surmount all the impeachment threats against him by his colleagues at that time because of the unflinching support he received from the late lawmaker.
Odeyemi said ‘’l really enjoyed Adeoti so well. I was a member of the PDP and Adeoti an ACN man, but he never allowed this to affect our relationship. He was a loyal, dedicated and reliable ally you can count on any issue.”
