Paralympic Com mittee of Nigeria has commended the Nigeria Powerlifting team to the just concluded International Powerlifting Championship held in Korfakkan,United Arab Emirate for doing the country proud at the tournament.
Secretary General of the Paralympic Committee Nigeria, Frank Thorpe praised the lifters for picking London 2012 paralympic Games tickets.
Thorpe reasoned that with adequate support and encouragement for the physically challenged who are the major stakeholders of Nigeria Paralympic Sports,
Nigeria won 3 gold, 3 silver and 1bronze medal at the week-long tournament which lasted from October 13 – 20 201
Loveline Obiji, won a gold medal in the 82kg weight category to broke the world record and picked london 2012 paralympic games ticket in the process, Precious Oriji in the plus 82kg weight class and Ifeanyi Nnajiofor who featured in the 60kg event accounted for 3gold medals..
The silver medals were won by Eberechukwu Tasia (40kg), Ikechukwu Obichukwu(52kg) and Jegede Opeyemi while Tolulope Taiwo who lifted in the 67kg weight division won the only bronze medal for Nigeria.
Coached by prince Are FeyiSetan, Nigeria went with 8lifters and won 7 medals with Dapo Akinyele, the Secretary of the Nigerian Para -powerlifting Federation as leader of delegation.
The team returned into the country at the weekend with the coach Prince Are Feyisetan lamenting over poor officiating that rubbed Nigeria of more gold medals.
