ABUJA-The Federal Government Tuesday expressed concern over the rise in the number of unaccredited medical schools in the country, and vowed to shut them down.

Speaking in Abuja when he received members of the National Association of Colleges of Medicine, NACOM, Health Minister, Professor Onyebuchi Chukwu, said he had written President Goodluck Jonathan on the issue, with a view to reversing the trend.

He said: “I am highly worried by the issue of accreditation of medical schools in Nigeria .  I am happy that the Provost of the University of Abuja Medical School is here.

“So many things have gone wrong; I have discussed with my colleague, the Minister of Education. I have written to her and have also written to the Board and management of University of Abuja Teaching Hospital , Gwagwalada.”
