Court rejects Enugu Govt’s prayer to restrain striking workers

The National Industrial Court Wednesday, refused to grant an order of interim injunction restraining the striking workers of Enugu State from continuing with the strike.

After listening to arguments from the Attorney General of the State, Mr A. I. Ani and Anthony Itedjere of Bamidele Aturu and Co, the court agreed with counsel to NLC and the other defendants that it was not in the interest of justice to grant the order.

Parties were asked to come back on Wednesday September 28, the next date of adjournment.

It will be recalled that Enugu State Government had approached the court seeking a number of declaratory and injunctive reliefs against the NLC and 6 others in respect of the N18,000 minimum wage in suit No. NIC/ABJ/45/2011.  The court was of the view that the application made by the Enugu State Government was premature and it was in the interest of justice to allow the defendants to react to the suit.
