The Medical and Health Workers’ Union of Nigeria Osun state chapter  has directed its members to disregard the call by a group within the union that members should continue with the strike suspended last week by the state chapter of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC).

A group within the union (Care take committee) had in a text message sent to members of the union urged them to stay at home despite the last week suspension of the general strike in the state by the NLC over the payment of N18,000 minimum wage.

But the union in a communiqué at the end of its congress in Osogbo yesterday said it had not declared any trade dispute with the government to warrant another round of strike.

The communiqué by the state organizing secretary of the union, Comrade Blessing Oduocha and the chairman, Comrade Femi Adebisi, noted that those who called for workers strike were not leaders of the union.

According to the statement, “Osun state Council of Medical and Health Workers union is independent and not an appendage of any other union in the state, and it has not delegated its statutory duties of advancing the cause of its members to anybody except the accredited leaders of the union.”

The union asked the government to stop further negotiation brothering on the welfare of its workers with the “illegal” faction of the union.
