Senate to decide DSC’s fate

By Emma Arubi
WARRI- As the fortunes of Delta Steel Company, DSC, continues to dwindle, the Chairman Senate Ad-Hoc Committee on Bureau for Public Enterprise, BPE, Senator Ahmed Lawan, has said that the Senate will take a final position on the sale of the near-comatose company.

He appealed to both staff and management to continue to dialogue.

The Committee was at the DSC last weekend, and met with management and staff, including members of host community, to ascertain claims and counter-claims on the acquisition of the steel company by Global Infrastructure Nigeria Limited, GINL.

At the end of the tour, Senator Lawan said from their assessment, there was more to be done about the state of the company. He noted that they had expected more from GINL having managed the steel firm for close to six years.

Lawan said the Senate ad hoc committee would monitor operations at the steel firm until it concludes its investigation, adding that once the committee concludes its investigations it would submit its report.

He said: “There is a lot of work to be done here (DSC). We expected to see more improvement than we saw because Global Infrastructure has been here for more than five years.

“They listed their challenges but the Federal Government privatised DSC to improve performance of the company.”
