Celebrations shook the home of former Abia state governor Orji Uzor Kalu as associates gathered to dine over Enyimba’s unprecedented 10-match CAF Champion’s League unbeaten run.
Kalu brought out his trade mark soccer ball and kicked into the air as chants of “Nzogbu Enyimba, enyi” enveloped the atmosphere.
“This is great.Ten matches unbeaten. This is a Nigerian Champion’s League record. And am sure by the time Enyimba beat Cottonsport in Aba,it will turn to a national record. That will beat Enugu Rangers’1977 feat of lifting the Mandela Cup without losing a game”.Kalu said.
The former governor congratulated the Aba Elephants on their first ever North African victory with the 2-1 victory over Al- Hilal inOmdurman.
“Yet another record. It also recorded a 90th minute goal as in previous matches. In 2008,Ifeanyi Onuigbo scored in the 90th to give the Sudanese a 3-2 win.Emeka Akueme did same for Enyimba in the A ba return leg just as Sam Tswanya did weekend’,he pointed out.
Kalu urged Enyimba to play their last group game as if their life depended on it.
“Yes ,they must strive to beat Cotton sport. There is a record waiting,”he added.
