BENIN CITY— Some crisis leaders of the Action Congress of Nigeria, ACN, in Igueben Local Government Areaa of Edo State and the caretaker committee chairman of the council, Mr. Sylvanus Igbogbo are at loggerheads.

The party leaders alleged that the chairman had collected over N520 million in the past two month with nothing to show for it, adding that he approved several projects in the council without recourse to due process. They also alleged that he has a dual citizenship.

The petition by one Mr Michael Iyoha and nine others, also accused the chairman of executing projects through direct labour and empowering members of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in the council and warned that the party may loss future elections in the area if the matter was not addressed.

Reacting, Igbogbo, described the allegations as unfounded, saying that he has no dual citizenship as alleged by “my detractors.  I  never gave any contract without the approval of the Exco. These people are angry because I refused to bring funds meant for development to be shared.”

“In just two months, we are constructing five primary schools, construction of Mission Road Ekpon, Uromi Agbor Road, 20km Secretariat Road, Electricity project at Amahor Idumodu Road, construction of the civic center and many others. What I did was to complete the projects which the former administration started.

“We are using direct labour because we want to empower our youths and also save money for the council. All their allegations are lies.  I have documents to prove them wrong. This council has been backward for years because of this kind of people. They hate development so they always want the money to be shared,” he added.
