The group stage of the Orange CAF Champions League and Confederation Cup enters the decisive fifth day this weekend as Nigerian referees enter the fray with a Champions League match in Tunisia involving Esperance and Mouloudia D’alger of Algeria.
Wokomma Solomon and Peter Edibe will lead out a quartet that will be supervised by Sarr Idrissa of Mauritania as Match Commissioner, while CAF Club Competitions manager, Essam Mohammed will be the General Coordinator.
Meanwhile, Champions League Group A table topping Enyimba of Aba, Confederations Cup hopefuls Sunshine Stars and Kaduna United will all fly out to Sudan, Congo DR and Angola respectively for their must win matches.
Enyimba play Hilal on Friday in a match that will go a long way in determining the group leaders with Tunisian referees in charge and Mali’s Sidi Bekaye Magassa as Match Commissioner. Enyimba go into the match with 8 points while Hilal has 7.
The other Group A match involving Cotton Sports ( 4 points ) and Raja ( 2 points ) in Garoua, Cameroun, has Nigeria’s Paul Bassey appointed as General Coordinator. Cotton Sports need the match badly to inch nearer the top.
Tunisian referees will also be in charge in Congo DR when Sunshine Stars play Daring Club Motema Pembe. When both sides met in Ijebu Ode, Sunshine won 2-0 but the Congolese have gone on to do a double against JSK of Algeria and are tied with Sunshine on 7 points behind MAS of Morrocco on 8 points. The Nigerians must get a result in this match if they hope to make the semi final.
Kaduna United on the other hand with five points need a miracle in Angola against top of the table Interclube ( 7 points ) to keep their dreams alive, knowing quite well that Club Africain also on five points are most likely to beat Asec of Cote D’ivoire at home.
Algerian referee Kordi Mohammed and his compatriots have been appointed to handle this match.
When both sides first met in Kaduna, Interclube forced their host to a 1-1 draw.
