The immediate past Commissioner for Water and Sanitation  in Ondo State, Mrs Yetunde Adeyanju, has led over 3500 members of the ruling All Progressive Congress to the opposition People’s Democratic Party in the state.

Recall that Adeyanju resigned her appointment two hours after after she was redeployed from the Water and Sanitation ministry to the ministry of physical Planning and Urban Development.

Speaking at a Ore, during her defection to PDP,  Adeyanju said that as leader of the Women Groups for Akeredolu’s Campaign in 2016 and 2020 she can no longer pretend that all is well with the APC.

“The APC has brought so much suffering to the people that, anybody with sympathy for people must exit the party” 

She was received into the PDP by the State Chairman of the party, Hon. Fatai Adams supported by governorship candidate of the party in Ogun State, Hon. Ladi Adeputu, Deputy Gov-Elect of Osun State Hon. Kola Adewusi and Dr. Eddy Olafeso.

Earlier, the party in the state, had condemned the state government of denying the party the use of government field , Ore, for the ceremony.

A statement issued by the party’s publicity secretary, Kennedy Peretei, said that said that party leaders and supporters were dispersed by the police.

According to him ” the approval for the use of Government Field, Ore was withdrawn without any reason after payment of N200,000.00 which was not refunded.

Peretei said ” there is no doubt, Akeredolu is jittery that his party, APC, having performed very woefully will be disgraced at the 2023 general elections.

“Mrs Yetunde Adeyanju, the immediate past Commissioner of Water Resources resigned from Akeredolu’s government two months ago. The Governor cannot stand his former Commissioner joining the PDP just 48 hours before the commencement of Campaigns.

“Our party advises Mr. Governor not to allow his fears about failure becloud his reasoning, as this will consume him. Government Field, Ore does not belong to him but the people of Ondo State.

But reacting, the governors Chief Press Secretary, Richard Olatunde, described the allegation as cheap blackmail by the opposition party.

Olatunde, said that ” The approval for the use of such venue doesn’t reside with the Governor. The venue in question is not under the control of the State Government. The Field is under the administration of the Local Government council.

” It’s a fruitless attempt to blackmail the governor, but it’s a missed goal.

” In clear terms, Governor Akeredolu knows nothing about the alleged refusal of the use of the field. The Governor doesn’t run the local government councils for the executive chairmen.

 Olatunde added that ” reports from the Local Government Chairman revealed that the PDP didn’t inform the council of their intention to use the venue.

“It is most illogical for the PDP to raise false alarm even when its aware that it has failed to follow due process on the use of the venue. 

He added that ” This failed blackmail is another calculated attempt by the PDP to seek undue attention.
