The International Lions Club through its charter Abuja Metropolitan Lions Club has donated 8000 litres of rehabilitated Water borehole system to the Local Education Authority (LEA) Primary School, Kado-Sabo, Life Camp area of the nation’s capital.

Lion Ladi Okojie, the Club President identified the rehabilitation of the 8000litres water borehole system as one of the club’s signature projects initiated to provide quality and portable water to the school, communities and entities within FCT.

According to her, the primary school is faced with severe water challenge following the breakdown of the existing one provided by FCT administration and pupils are forced to defecate randomly around the school premise for couple of years.

Okojie also said that the pupils were vulnerable when they sort for decent toilet facilities around the neighborhood where the school is located.

“A clear case as narrated in the course of carrying out needs assessment shows that several female pupils come down with Pelvic Inflammatory Diseases ( PID) owing to lack of water.

“Also there are several cases of attempted rape on the females in the course of finding best and seemingly decent points to ease out.

Other interventions by the association in the school as signage, educational materials, oral health education and distribution of toothpaste and brushes to the pupils.

Okojie said the interventions were aimed at improving the educational standard and health of the children respectively.

The president added that the projects are expected to complement government efforts “as they continue to find ways in providing improved social welfare services in Nigeria and improve the livelihood of her citizens.

“The project is expected to improve the social welfare status of Kado residents in line with the mandate of Lions Clubs International to provide quality services and the Sustainable Development Goals in the country,’’

Okojie listed other projects executed by the club across FCT as provision of scholarships to students in primary and secondary schools, water projects in Tunga Maje, Kado Community and donation of a Resource Centre at School of the Blind, Utako.

Others included donation and equipping of a 20 bed Oncology Centre at the University of Abuja Teaching Hospital, massive hunger relief programmes as well as sight preservation projects.

She expressed the commitment of the club to do more to improve reading conditions and the educational standard of the school in the area of renovation of classroom blocks and provision of desks and benches among others.

“Every member of Abuja metropolitan lions club remain resolute in the business of improving the lives and welfare of individuals, our communities and the nation at large,’’ she said.

Also, Esun Danlami Audu, Village Head of Kado, Life Camp commended the club for their continuous support at improving the livelihood of every member of the community.

Audu who decried the lack of toilet facilities and other social amenities within the school premises however appealed for further assistance of the club to ensure those amenities are in place in due course.

Mrs Aishatu Mohammed, Head Mistress of the school commended the club for the gesture and assured proper care of the projects.

Present at the ceremony were Chief Jide Bello, District Governor, 404A2, Lion Mesembe Edet , Council Chairperson, Lynda Odu-Okpeseyi, immediate past District Governor and parliamentarians from National Assembly, social experts, community and civil society leaders among others.
